MAYOR'S COMMUNITY WELLNESS EVENTS

A free community activity every month of the year!

The Mayor’s Wellness Challenge has been reimagined in 2017 to celebrate
and grow our community spirit over the course of the entire year, with a
special event or activity highlighted each month!

We encourage everyone to come out and participate - celebrating together strengthens our community connections, fosters neighborliness, and
highlights everything that is great about our city. We look forward to
seeing you in the months ahead!

Check back here for all the latest details on monthly activities, or “like” us
on Facebook at Mount Vernon Wellness Challenge.

JULY EVENTS

Fabulous 4th of July
Tuesday, July 4, 2017
Edgewater Park, 600 Behrens-Millett Road
Music, food, and fireworks...a good time for the entire family! Bring your own food and BBQ or try one of our tasty food vendors. Music begins with local bands at 7pm, the headliner at 9pm, and fireworks at dark. Don't forget your lawn chair or blanket and a flashlight to help when leaving the show.

33rd Annual Children's Art Festival
Saturday, July 15, 10am - 4pm
Hillcrest Park, 1717 S. 13th Street

Local children's entertainment and approximately 30 booths providing hands on arts and crafts! Children can experience activities from fish prints to sand art and best of all, it's free! This festival is supported by the City of Mount Vernon and many other generous businesses and organizations in Mount Vernon and the Skagit Valley.

Fall and Winter Gardens Start in Summer!
Monday, July 24, 6pm
Mount Vernon City Library, 315 Snoqualmie Street

How would you like to enjoy fresh-picked carrots in December? Savor spinach, kale and other greens throughout the winter? Harvest broccoli and cauliflower late into the year? You can - if you plant in July and August. Join Valerie Rose, WSU Skagit Master Gardener, to learn why a fall garden must be started in the summer; which varieties are best for late-season harvest; and strategies for protecting your garden from frost and cold. New and experienced gardeners alike will learn how to extend the growing season well into the cold months.
