A fun-filled weekly afternoon program, focusing on wilderness skills. Through hands-on experiences, students will learn a variety of skills, including shelter building, navigation, identification of edible and poisonous plants, wilderness first aid, and advanced fire making techniques, including friction fire. Not only can these skills be practical, they are also fun to learn, and build confidence, perseverance, and a strong connection to nature. During the Fall, our curriculum will focus on shelter building, nature observation, and navigation, in order to prepare for winter. In Winter, students will build upon the skills they learned in the Fall, to build and tend fires, and work on advanced fire techniques. We will also work indoors on our nature observation journals, enhance skills through purposeful games, and practice wilderness first aid.
