Limited palette for remarkable effects in watercolor! This Thanksgiving themed watercolor workshop will incorporate still life elements such as pumpkin, gourds, and squash with a warm Autumn palette in yellow ochres, burnt umbers, and hooker’s green with accents of red. A still life will be set up to paint and we will discuss and explore tonal values and ways to create tones and values with watercolor as we create our initial drawing and analyze our light source on the objects. We will also discuss the careful use of negative space to help establish our space and draw the eye off the paper effectively as we block in our drawings. Watercolor techniques of delicate wash for the background and drawn detail at the final stage of the watercolor painting will help the student to focus on the planning of the piece. Materials of paper, paint and brushes are provided. (A still life will be set up in the classroom but if you have gourds or squash that you love the shapes and colors of, please bring your own to paint!)
