In 2018 Mount Vernon sought a professional architectural firm to perform a needs assessment for the replacement of Fire Station 1 and renovation of Stations 2 and 3.
This project included a review of existing conditions at Stations 2 and 3; identified current/future space and operational needs; prepared conceptual design; and forecast construction and total project costs for a new Station 1 and renovations to Stations 2 and 3. This needs assessment resulted in moving forward to renovate Stations 2 and 3.
We are excited to say that after four years of planning we have begun the work at the stations. The project will start with Station 3 on Division Street and when that is completed will shift to Station 2 on LaVenture. The current plan calls for Station 3 to be completed within 300 days (roughly around May 2023). Crews from Trico are actively working on the station and have started by removing landscaping and relocating some current equipment.
In the coming weeks the addition of a new apparatus bay will begin and then work will shift to the interior. Highlights of the project include the new apparatus bay, office space for fire crews, adequate living spaces (crews work a 24-hour period), an improved training/community room, and sleeping quarters for additional crews in the future.
