4% Friday - August 28th

On Friday August 28th the Mount Vernon Library Foundation will be the recipient of the Skagit Valley Food Co-op's 4% Friday program. This means 4% of the Co-op's sales for that day will be awarded to the foundation which supports the essential public services that the library provides to the community through materials, services, and programs. So shop til you drop in support of your library!

The
Foundation also has a new website. Check it out: mvlibraryfoundation.org.

Summer Discovery Trees Week 2

Summer Discovery

This week we continue our exploration of trees and trails with observation, collection and identification activities, and bird watching!

Just stop by any one of the Little Free Library locations to pick up a packet of fun STEAM activities, movement play, and awesome book picks to inspire your explorations.

The four new Little Free Library locations are sponsored by the Friends of the Mount Vernon Library. They are located at Bakerview Park (by the playground), Edgewater Park (by the restrooms), Hillcrest Park (by the restrooms) or the Mount Vernon City Library (on Snoqualmie near the corner with S 2nd Street) to grab a flier (and maybe even a free book).

Remember all the activities can also be found on our website at http://www.mountvernonwa.gov/1038/Summer-Discovery.

Storytime To-Go

Storytime To-Go

This summer, instead of in person storytimes, we will be offering Storytime To-Go - online weekly read alouds and activities for you to share at home with your kiddos. Each week on Tuesday, starting July 7, we will be posting a link to an online story and movement, math, and hands on activities. You will be able to enjoy a storytime experience in the comfort of your own home, and as your schedule allows.

August 25 - "Pete the Cat and his Four Groovy Buttons"
August 18 - "Count the Monkeys"
August 11 - "More Bears"
August 4 - "Guji, Guji"
July 21 - "The Lemonade Problem"
July 21 - "Arthur’s New Puppy"
July 14 - "There’s a Dragon in Your Book"

Bilingual Storytime

Bilingual Storytime

Online  weekly read alouds of bilingual books every Thursday with  themed activities to accompany the story and encourage readers to think beyond the book.

Starting
September 3rd.

Everyone should have Access

We Value Access

Two out of three children living in poverty do not have a book of their own. The library strongly believes all children need their own books and should have the opportunity to choose books for themselves. That's why behind the scenes we have been giving away hundreds of grant funded books to local non-profits and school district partners to encourage literacy and learning in this time of heightened need.

We also worked with the Friends of the Mount Vernon Library to install little free libraries in Bakerview, Edgewater, Hillcrest and at the Library itself.
