More details from Suzanne Butler, President of the Mount Vernon Library Foundation:
“The Library Foundation is excited to bring Daniel James Brown to speak at the Lincoln. He wrote the wonderful book The Boys in the Boat, which you may have read (and have probably seen the movie), about the University of Washington rowing team that beat the Germans in the 1936 Olympics.
“You may not have read his more recent book, Facing the Mountain, which tells of the incarceration of Japanese Americans during WWII and wonderful stories of the heroism shown by Japanese American fighting units during the war. Skagit Valley families were torn from their homes and still fought in those segregated army units.
“Please join me at the Lincoln to welcome Daniel James Brown to town and listen to his compelling stories. Proceeds go to Library programs and equipment. Both books are available at the Mount Vernon Library Commons.”
