Councilmember Juan Morales

Juan was born and raised in Mount Vernon, WA. In the early 1990’s his parents left the Mexican state of Michoacán in pursuit of a better life and chose Mount Vernon as the place to raise their four children. Juan attended and graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 2014 and earned his Bachelors of Applied-Science degree in Applied-Management with summa cum laude distinction in June 2020.

Involvement in the community has been crucial for Juan. He has served local students through Children of the Valley, participated in Mount Vernon Police Department’s Preparatory Academy in 2013, graduated from Mount Vernon Citizen’s Academy in 2017, donated his musical talents to several community events across Western Washington, and served with the judicial branch of government during his tenure with Skagit County Superior Court. In 2018, Juan volunteered with City Council in studying Washington’s Voting Rights Act of 2018, which ultimately spiked his interest in serving the city that raised him. In early 2021, Juan was unanimously appointed to serve as City Councilmember for Ward 1 and then humbly elected by the residents of Mount Vernon.

Juan and his wife are now raising their new-born son in the same community they were raised in.

In the times ahead, Juan is dedicated to respectfully serving all residents of Mount Vernon with unwavering diligence, empathy, and equity. Please do not hesitate to reach out to him or the city for any questions or comments - your feedback and engagement is of crucial importance to Juan.
