Posted on: April 20, 2016[ARCHIVED] Telling Our Stories: Local Histories in the Library and Beyond.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Mount Vernon City Library as a public entity. In honor of this landmark, and to recognize and celebrate the many Library users and the diversity of their stories, the Library is opening an oral histories project that we are calling, Telling Our Stories: Local Histories in the Library and Beyond.
We are collecting stories from Library users, such as Joan Lee, who got her first library card with us more than 70 years ago, while she was in the 2nd grade.
Today young people have the same excitement, bouncing up and down eagerly while proudly signing their name to a new library card. But today, they have a wealth of new and different resources at the library: science education taught with Legos, books on CD for long car trips, an animated talking-book library online, and programs on gardening for young and old alike.
We all have a story to tell about how the library has touched our lives. At the heart of our thriving community for one hundred years, the Mount Vernon City Library wants to know, what will your story be?
We'll be here to record your stories, Tuesdays, between 1 - 7 pm, beginning May 3rd, and running through December. Appointments are available and preferred. For more information call us at 336-6209.
