PERMIT PORTAL & INSPECTION REQUESTS

ELECTRONIC PERMITS

The Development Services Department utilizes SmartGov (a browser-based permitting software), to accept, review, issue, and finalize all permits and approvals.  

Click HERE to be directed to the City's SmartGov site where you can submit most permits, pay permit fees, view permit information, and request inspections after your permit has been issued. Click HERE for instructions on how to request inspections.

Most permits are submitted directly to the SmartGov permit portal; however, there are a few types of more complicated permits that need to be  uploaded to a FTP site and our staff will upload these permits into the SmarGov software.

Following is a list of permits that are submitted directly to the SmartGov Permit portal.  If the permit you need to submit isn't on this list please contact our Permit Techs at:  PermitTech@mountvernonwa.gov and ask for a FTP link to upload your permit materials to.

PERMITS SUBMITTED DIRECTLY TO SMARTGOV

• All commercial and residential building permits including demolition, mechanical, plumbing, re-roof, signs, and solar permits
• All engineering permits including boundary line adjustments, fill and grade, right-of-way, sewer, and traffic concurrency permits
• All fire permits
• Many planning permits including ADUs, design review, fence, floodplain development, home occupation, non-conforming, pre-application meeting requests and temporary use permits.
